Where will Barcelona host Champions League football?
"Barcelona will host Paris Saint-Germain in under a week's time in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the Champions League league phase - but it won't be taking place at the Nou Camp. After months of uncertainty surrounding the 962m (1.1 billion) redevelopment of their historic home, Barcelona have confirmed that their second group stage match will instead be held at the city's Olympic Stadium."
"The city council turned down their request for an essential permit on Tuesday, with the city's fire department saying there were problems with evacuation routes and other safety issues. However, Barca's operations director Joan Sentelles told reporters during a tour of the stadium on Tuesday that "just because it's not finished, [it] doesn't mean it's not safe." Sentelles also said the roof will be put on the stadium in the summer of 2027 - a year later than originally planned."
"For the past two seasons, Barcelona have played their home fixtures at the Olympic Stadium. However, this season, the hope was always to be back at the Nou Camp. La Liga had given them permission to play their first three matches of the season away from home, to try and ensure the stadium would be partially ready to open. Instead, Barcelona have played their first two home games at The Johan Cruyff Stadium, which has an approximate capacity of 6,000."
Paris Saint-Germain will be hosted at Barcelona's Olympic Stadium for the upcoming Champions League group match because Camp Nou remains closed amid redevelopment. The city council refused an essential permit citing evacuation-route and other safety problems. Barcelona asserts the stadium is safe and plans to install the roof in summer 2027, a year later than planned. Barcelona played home fixtures at the Olympic Stadium for the past two seasons and had aimed to return to Camp Nou this season. La Liga allowed early-season away matches and granted a temporary stadium-capacity exception for two home games played at the 6,000-seat Johan Cruyff Stadium.
