'The disappointment stemmed from that' - Deco reacts to Dro Fernandez's Barcelona exit
"We don't care who the agent is, but rather the player's profile. At the beginning of last season, he came to train with the first team, Flick liked him, and even though there were several players in that position, the coach took a liking to him."
"In Dro's case, he had a six million euro release clause, like most players who sign their first contract, and what I could do was explain to him the idea we had for him and the context in which he could grow here. The coach helped, had him train, and took him along for preseason. The disappointment stemmed partly from that. With all due respect to PSG, which is a spectacular club and where I have friends, like Luis Campos."
Dro turned 16 in January 2024 and signed his first professional contract in March. He trained with the team two or three times during that period and joined preseason after earlier first-team training. Coach Flick liked him despite competition in his position and involved him in first-team sessions. His first contract carried a €6 million release clause, typical for young players, and club staff explained the development plan and context for his growth. The club felt disappointment partly because of those circumstances while maintaining respect for PSG and professional contacts such as Luis Campos.
