Barcelona's sporting director Deco has commented on the club's goalkeeping situation following the signing of Joan Garcia from Espanyol. Garcia, who impressed last season with leading saves in LaLiga, raises questions about Marc-Andre ter Stegen's position. Deco emphasized that his priority is forming an efficient team for the coach, indirectly suggesting that Ter Stegen might not be guaranteed a starting spot moving forward. He compared the situation to Liverpool's goalkeeping choices, indicating that competition among goalkeepers is expected at Barca, including Ter Stegen's potential shift to third-choice.
"I don't have to talk to him. My obligation is to make the best team possible for the coach. This isn't my responsibility," Deco stated in reference to Ter Stegen's future.
"We've made the decision to sign a young goalkeeper. It means he can play tomorrow, be on the bench, or play in a year or two. We have certain expectations for Joan that must then be met," Deco explained.
