Joan Laporta responds to Xavi's decision to back Victor Font in Barcelona's presidential elections
""I wasn't surprised that Xavi was there and I thought he was free to do whatever he wants. I'm not surprised because in the past he had a relationship with Victor Font," he told RAC1. "All Barça fans can do what they think is appropriate. We're not in the middle of an election campaign yet, so I won't comment on everything. "When I said 'mestretites' (know-it-alls), I didn't specify names or positions."
"It was a warning to all those who see Barcelona solely as a business, because those who see it that way have the concept of a limited company in mind. If he felt targeted, there must be a reason. Laporta has not yet set a date for the elections but says he will soon. He added: "We have not yet decided on the date of the elections but they will be between March 15 and June 15. We will decide as soon as possible and we hope that they hinder the team as little as possible.""
Joan Laporta expressed no surprise at Xavi backing Victor Font, citing a past relationship between Xavi and Font. Laporta said all Barcelona fans are free to support whom they choose and that he will not comment on every action while an election campaign is not officially underway. He clarified that his 'mestretites' remark did not target specific individuals and described it as a warning to those who view Barcelona purely as a business. Laporta indicated the presidential election date will be set soon, between March 15 and June 15, aiming to minimize disruption to the team.
