Last year was particularly difficult. We weren't safe until the very last day. These are things that just come out; in the end, you have a lot of affection for the club and you've suffered a lot."
"One thing doesn't take away from the other, and the affection I have for (Espanyol) can be compatible with taking a step forward and looking for the best for myself and my career. I'm looking forward to going back. I think it will be different to return wearing another shirt. I'm also a little aware of what might happen. That day I'll go there like any other stadium, to try to play the best game possible and try to win."
Joan Garcia is close to returning from several months of recovery and is expected to be available for Barcelona's match versus Athletic Club on 22 November. The fixture could mark his debut at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou. Garcia has circled the Barcelona–Espanyol derby in early 2026 as a special date because of his long history at Espanyol. He described mixed emotions from his time at Espanyol, citing suffering and enjoyment, and said his affection for the club can coexist with pursuing career advancement. He clarified that he did not inform others of his transfer in advance.
