'I can do a lot better'- Jules Kounde accepts blame after France draw
"I haven't seen the goal again, but I have the feeling I can do a lot better. We get pierced a bit easily, and then I have a bad reflex to go up, to take that step forward when I should have simply stepped back. Let's say that's a bit like how we defend at club level, and unfortunately, it's a bad reflex that costs dearly because we concede a goal, even though the action goes forward, but the result is that I could have done better on that goal."
"We were positioned very high up, poorly positioned."
France drew 2-2 with Iceland in World Cup qualifying after an equaliser that Barcelona defender Jules Kounde said he could have prevented. Kounde said he had not seen the goal again but felt he could have done much better, admitting a bad reflex to step forward in an attempt to play offside instead of stepping back. Manager Didier Deschamps criticised the team’s high and poor positioning which opened the chance. The draw denied France the opportunity to qualify immediately, though they remain three points clear at the top of the group. Kounde will return to Barcelona to prepare for Saturday’s match with Girona.
