Nicolas Anelka revealed in an interview that Barcelona showed interest in signing him in 1997 when he was a young player at Paris Saint-Germain under manager Bobby Robson. However, Anelka opted to join Arsenal in February 1997, signing with manager Arsène Wenger for under one million euros. After two years at Arsenal, he transferred to Real Madrid for €35 million in 1999, spending one season at the Bernabéu before rejoining PSG in 2000. Although he never played for Barcelona during his career, Anelka expressed admiration for the current Barcelona team managed by Hansi Flick.
