"There is still a long way to go, but it is exceptional news that Joan is growing at a great club like Barcelona, that he is performing at the level he is and that he makes it difficult for us. We have been following him for some time. He is a great lad and we know him."
"Looking so many months ahead, it is very premature and many things can happen, but Joan, with that level and his personality, of course, he is involved in the battle to be among the candidates selected."
Joan Garcia, 24, produced exceptional goalkeeping at Espanyol last season and continues that form at Barcelona. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente previously overlooked him for national selection, but a call-up for the Finalissima against Argentina on 29 March in Doha is now considered certain. National staff have not publicly confirmed the squad, saying it is too early to discuss selections beyond the match. Garcia's inclusion is viewed as a lock for the game, though there is no commitment regarding the World Cup. Assistant coach Juanjo Gonzalez praised Garcia's development, performance and personality and said he is among candidates being monitored for selection.
