Barcelona squad for the Spanish Super Cup - Araujo, three youth gems to travel; no Gavi | Barca Universal
"One of the main highlights is the inclusion of Ronald Araujo, who has not been named in a squad since 25 November, when Barcelona played at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. The Uruguayan decided to take time out to overcome anxiety issues and, although he was not included for the derby despite resuming training, he did travel with the team to the RCDE Stadium. And now, he will also be a part of the travelling squad for the Super Cup."
"Gavi will not be part of the travelling party, even though it was suggested that he could travel to support his teammates. He is one of the confirmed absences as he continues to recover from the injury that required another operation. He remains in Barcelona to focus on his recovery and follow the planned timelines. The midfielder is progressing well, but it is still too early for him to return to competition."
FC Barcelona travel to Saudi Arabia to contest the Spanish Super Cup alongside Athletic Club, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. The semi-finals begin Wednesday with Barcelona facing Athletic Club, and continue Thursday with Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid, with the final on Sunday 11 January. Hansi Flick’s side complete a final training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper before departure. A 24-player delegation will travel to Jeddah. Ronald Araujo is included after a mental-health-related absence but is not guaranteed a matchday spot. Gavi and Andreas Christensen remain home while recovering. Jofre Torrents, Tommy Marques and Dro Fernande are named from the reserve team.
