Barcelona are nearing a deal for Gael Seijo, a versatile defender from Deportivo La Coruna’s Abegondo academy. Seijo, born in 2011 in Lugo, is a Spanish Under-14 international noted for physical strength beyond most peers. He can play as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, and interest also came from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid have already signed Raul Lema, a winger born in 2010 and a top U16 prospect, who has played for Deportivo’s Division de Honor Juvenil side. Lema will move to Madrid with his family to join the Bernabeu youth setup, adding to Deportivo’s difficulty retaining elite youth players despite offering stability and a family environment.
