Joan Laporta acknowledged that relations between Barcelona and Real Madrid are currently broken but can be repaired. He indicated that Real Madrid aim to relive Barcelona's historic season and must begin by winning the Spanish Super Cup. Laporta praised the Royal Spanish Football Federation and its president Rafael Louzan for organising the competition in Saudi Arabia and for the final-four format's boost to prestige and international recognition. He thanked and congratulated the federation for excellent organisation. The remarks were made during the welcome cocktail ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final, where Real Madrid were represented by Emilio Butragueno.
