Barcelona offer trial to 17-year-old South American defensive midfielder | Barca Universal
"It is official. We tried to keep it discreet, but Ederson went to Barcelona to take part in a trial. It is a limited period of time that he will be there and then he will return. We are monitoring his performance."
"He is part of the first team of LDU Quito. Afterwards, the next steps will be assessed if Barça show interest. We want to guide him, look after him, help him grow and ensure positive development because he is one of the jewels of our academy."
FC Barcelona continue to monitor the South American market for young talents and plan to send scouts to the Copinha tournament. Several Brazilian prospects are already on the club's radar while the club also tracks talent across other South American nations. Seventeen-year-old midfielder Ederson Castillo, a product of LDU Quito's youth ranks, travelled to Barcelona with his club's consent to undergo a short trial and be evaluated by the club's technical staff. LDU president Isaac Alvarez confirmed the limited trial and said the club will monitor his performance and assess next steps if Barcelona show interest. Deco and Joao Amaral are overseeing the operation.
