Barcelona miss out on potential revenue even as former defender closes in on Juventus move | Barca Universal
"Although Mingueza wasn't able to make an impact at Barcelona, the club managed to retain 50% of his transfer rights when they sold him to Celta Vigo, valid till the duration of his contract with the new club. It didn't take long for Mingueza to make an impact at Celta, and for a time, it appeared the Barcelona were going to earn a solid chunk of revenue as big clubs circled around the defender."
"Four years later, Mingueza is finally on the verge of leaving Celta Vigo, with Juventus all set to acquire the services of the right-back, reports Fabrizio Romano (h/t Mundo Deportivo). However, the move won't be value accretive for Barcelona at all, as Juventus have cleverly managed to convince Mingueza to join the club at the end of the season. To Barça's detriment, Mingueza's contract at Celta Vigo expires at the end of the season, meaning Barcelona, too, will lose 50% transfer rights of the player."
"This effectively allows Juventus to acquire the services of Mingueza for free, as they are not obliged to pay anything to Celta Vigo or Barcelona. If Mingueza were to join Juventus in the ongoing January transfer window, Barcelona would have been entitled to 50% of the transfer value. The additional revenue could have gone a long way in helping Barcelona financially, especially with the club acquiring Joao Cancelo."
Barcelona retained 50% of Oscar Mingueza's transfer rights when selling him to Celta Vigo, with that share valid for the length of his Celta contract. Mingueza developed at Celta and attracted interest from larger clubs. Juventus are poised to sign Mingueza at the end of the season as his Celta contract expires. Because the transfer will be a free move, Barcelona will receive no fee and will lose their 50% rights. Had Mingueza transferred in January, Barcelona would have been entitled to half of any transfer fee, which could have helped the club financially.
