Over 2m people taking part in sport on a weekly basis as Sports Active Wexford lay out long term vision
2.12m people take part in sport weekly. Personal exercise continues to grow, with one in five people participating weekly. The most popular sports are personal exercise (20%), swimming (8%), running (7%), cycling (4%), and weights (4%). Gaelic football, soccer, dancing, yoga, and Pilates each account for 3%, followed by golf at 2%. Sports Active Wexford launched a 2025-2030 strategic plan aiming to encourage people to start physical activity, stay active across life stages, and succeed in personal goals. The plan focuses on empowering communities, enabling inclusion, and supporting the sports sector.
"The data shows that personal exercise continues to grow in popularity, with one in five people now participating on a weekly basis. The top five most popular sports are personal exercise (20pc), swimming (8pc), running (7pc), cycling (4pc), and weights (4pc). Next are Gaelic football, soccer, dancing, yoga and Pilates (all at 3pc), then golf (2pc)."
"Earlier this year, Wexford Sports Active launched their strategic plan 2025-2030, which they say outline a long-term vision for Wexford to be a county where all people are encouraged to start to participate in some form of physical activity, stay physically active across the life stages and succeed in achieving their personal goals."
"Within the report, Sports Active Wexford identified three strategic themes which will be their key areas of focus for the half decade period to achieve their vision. Those themes are empowering communities, enabling inclusion, and supporting the sports sector."
"“As we embark on the journey outlined in this third strategic plan, it is essential to reflect on the values and vision that drive our organisation,” commented Fran Ronan, Head of Wexford Local Sports Partnership. “This strategic plan is not just a document; it is a commitment to excellence and innovation. It reflects our unwavering dedication to our mission and our determination to make a positive impact in our community and beyond.”"
