Rachel Rickard began showing interest in gymnastics in Junior infants at Tenure School, focusing on perfecting the back bend through constant practice. She later joined DP gymnastics in Drogheda, developing skills across floor, bars, beam routines, handstands, cartwheels, and kick overs. She also participates in Special Olympics gymnastics through the Donabate Portrane Special Olympics club and the Drogheda Special Olympics club. Over recent years, she has won multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals. She was selected for the Ireland Summer Games, with opening ceremonies in Tallaght Stadium on 18 June and gymnastics competitions at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown on 19, 20, and 21 June. Training includes weekly sessions since September and additional regional training once a month in Santry. A coffee morning in The Parochial House in Tenure raised €3,000.
"Rachel Rickard started showing an interest in gymnastics when she was in Junior infants in Tenure School. She was determined to perfect the back bend and, with constant practise, she nailed it. DP gymnastics in Drogheda welcomed her with open arms a few years ago, where she progressed with floor, bars, beam routines, handstands, cartwheels, kick overs and the likes."
"She joined Donabate Portrane Special Olympics club as they run gymnastics classes for their members. She is also part of the Drogheda Special Olympics club but her passion is gymnastics. She has won a number of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals over the last few years and her proud family were thrilled when she was selected for this year's Ireland Summer Games, as we all are, in Monasterboice."
"They will run over the course of 3 days, starting with the opening ceremony in Tallaght Stadium on the 18th June. The Gymnastics competitions are being held in the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown 19th, 20th & 21st June. Rachel is a daugher of Avril and granddaughter of the late Ester and Liam."
"They train every Tuesday and Sunday and then the whole Eastern Region team train together once a month in Santry. It has been such a wonderful experience for Rachel so far and all associated with her are absolutely overwhelmed by the love and support from her friends, teachers, SNA's and neighbours in the community. All richly deserved by the wonderful Rachel. The Coffee Morning, recently held in The Parochial House in Tenure raised a phenomenal €3k!!!!"
