Boiled egg water is a renewable-resource alternative to discarding liquid water down the drain. Eggshells contain calcium, and boiled egg water can provide small amounts of calcium and nutrients that plants may benefit from compared with municipal water. Calcium deficiency contributes to blossom-end rot in tomatoes and tip browning in some brassica vegetables. Peppers, eggplants, and leafy greens require balanced soil calcium and may need pH testing before using egg-derived water. Finely ground eggshells can be added to soil, and small annual raked amounts of fireplace ash can supplement calcium carbonate, but excess can spoil soil.
