Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi praised the successful pilot with Waymo in Austin, indicating that their 100 self-driving vehicles are busier than a vast majority of human drivers in the city. He's optimistic about expanding their partnership with Waymo to Atlanta. However, Uber is diversifying its autonomous vehicle partnerships and recently announced an extended deal with WeRide, which will launch in 15 new cities outside the U.S. and China, showcasing Uber's strategy not to depend solely on any one tech provider.
In Q1 remarks, Khosrowshahi highlighted that Uber's pilot with Waymo in Austin exceeded expectations with self-driving vehicles performing busier than 99% of human drivers.
While Waymo remains Uber's marquee partner in the U.S., the rideshare giant emphasizes a multi-partnership approach for self-driving technology.
