Framework has temporarily stopped sales of certain laptop models in the US due to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which went into effect on April 5th. The company stated that sales of base Framework Laptop 13 models like the Ultra 5 125H and Ryzen 5 7640U are now removed from its website. The price structure was based on a 0 percent import tariff from Taiwan, and the current 10 percent tariff would force the company to sell laptops at a loss. Similar decisions have been taken by other companies amid these tariff concerns.
"We priced our laptops when tariffs on imports from Taiwan were 0 percent. At a 10 percent tariff, we would have to sell the lowest-end SKUs at a loss."
"Other consumer goods makers have performed the same calculations and taken the same actions, though most have not been open about it."
"The affected models are a few base Framework Laptop 13 systems (Ultra 5 125H and Ryzen 5 7640U)," the company says.
"Nintendo delayed US Switch 2 preorders over tariff concerns, for example, and Jaguar Land Rover has paused US shipments in April to develop its plans."
