HMD launched its first smartphone, the Vibe 2 5G, with Sarvam’s Indus chatbot preloaded. Indus runs on a locally trained 105-billion-parameter model and was introduced at an AI summit in New Delhi. The chatbot supports 22 Indic languages and can switch languages mid-sentence to better follow user context. The app currently requires online use because it does not support offline usage, and it lacks a device shortcut or integrated feature to invoke the assistant. HMD plans to first distribute Indus widely through preloading, then focus on increasing user traction and retention. The Vibe 2 5G is a mid-range Android phone priced at ₹10,999 with a 6,000mAh battery, and future HMD devices are expected to include the chatbot, including a feature phone integration.
"The Vibe 2 5G is a mid-range Android phone with a 6,000mAh battery and a price tag of ₹10,999($114). Kunwar added the devices in the Vibe series of smartphones will also get the chatbot, and the company is also expected to launch a feature phone with Sarvam AI integration in the coming months."
