Epic Games takes aim at Apple and Steam with zero-commission policy for developers
Briefly

Epic Games has announced a new commission policy for app developers, waiving fees on the first $1,000,000 of revenue annually, which takes effect in June. After reaching this threshold, a 12% commission will apply, significantly lower than Steam’s 30% and Apple’s increasing fees. Additionally, Epic is launching webshops for out-of-app purchases, providing a cost-effective option for developers to avoid Apple's fees. This change follows a legal victory against Apple, allowing purchases outside of the App Store, with a planned return of Fortnite to Apple devices soon.
Epic Games Store will take 0% on the first $1,000,000 of payments we process per game per year, and 12% after that.
The company will begin offering a bonus of five percent in Epic Rewards to lure customers to these webshops, applicable to all purchases.
A California court just ordered Apple to stop collecting fees for purchases made outside of the App Store, enabling this webshop initiative.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has stated the company would return Fortnite to the App Store worldwide, contingent upon the new rulings.
