AWS makes European Sovereign Cloud as European as possible
Briefly

AWS has launched the AWS European Sovereign Cloud to emphasize European leadership and governance. Led by Kathrin Renz, the new venture aims for operational independence by ensuring all leadership, infrastructure, and employees involved are based in the EU. Scheduled to go live by the end of 2025 in Brandenburg, Germany, the service promises adherence to European laws and security practices, setting itself apart from competitors. Additionally, an independent advisory board and a dedicated European Security Operations Center will oversee compliance and offer guidance on security matters.
AWS promises that all infrastructure, talent, technology, and leadership will be based in the EU. Only AWS employees residing in the EU will have access to data centers and be able to provide technical support.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud will have a fully European governance structure. In addition to Renz, the management team consists of a government security and privacy official, all of whom are EU citizens residing in the EU.
