Amazon launches big reorg of its grocery business, with new leaders who are finally integrating Whole Foods
Briefly

Amazon is reorganizing Whole Foods under new leadership to better integrate it into its grocery business. CEO Jason Buechel announced plans to align corporate staff with Amazon's employee programs over the next year. The restructuring aims to eliminate duplicated efforts between the brands and capitalize on their collective strengths, thereby streamlining operations. Since Amazon's acquisition in 2017, Whole Foods has experienced significant sales growth, but alignment on a unified growth strategy has been challenging. This move reflects ongoing efforts by Amazon to refine its grocery strategy and enhance collaboration across its subsidiaries.
The previous structure failed to leverage 'the breadth of talent, resources, and knowledge' across Amazon's grocery ecosystem and Whole Foods.
'Too frequently we are duplicating efforts and missing easy opportunities for efficiency,' Buechel explained in the memo.
Under CEO Andy Jassy, Amazon has taken similar steps to more closely align other subsidiaries, such as One Medical and Audible, with its broader corporate culture.
Amazon spokesperson Lauren Snyder confirmed the changes, adding that the company has a 'successful and growing grocery business.'
