"Migration Minister Johan Forssell stated, 'If you for example neglect to pay your debts, if you don't follow decisions by Swedish authorities, if you cheat on benefits or if you cheat in order to get a Swedish residence permit well, then you don't have the right to be here.'"
"The new law will apply retroactively, meaning that all residence permits will be affected, not just those issued after it comes into force."
The Swedish government is advancing a bill to revoke residency permits for foreigners not meeting good behaviour standards. This reintroduces the good behaviour requirement, known as vandelskrav, previously in place before 2005. Foreigners with bristande vandel, or flawed conduct, will be ineligible for residency. Factors like neglecting debts, ignoring authority decisions, or benefit fraud will be considered poor conduct. The law will apply retroactively, affecting all residence permits, and previous conduct will be grounds for revocation when combined with actions post-enactment on July 13th, pending parliamentary approval.
