Former EU Commissioner Phil Hogan nominated by Government as Ireland's candidate for senior UN job

"Former EU Commissioner, Phil Hogan, has been nominated as Ireland's candidate to be the next Director-General of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The Cabinet has agreed to put him name forward for the role and it's expected he will get the backing of other EU countries for the election of the position, which takes place in summer 2027."

Phil Hogan, a former European Union Commissioner, has received Ireland's Cabinet approval as the country's official candidate for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation. The election for this leadership role is scheduled to take place in summer 2027. Ireland's government expects Hogan's candidacy to receive support from other European Union member states during the selection process, strengthening his position for the upcoming election.
