The EU is revising its defense strategy amid increasing global security threats, particularly from Russia's aggression and China's assertiveness. EU foreign representative Kaja Kallas emphasized the importance of defense investment, noting it has been undervalued in recent years. A blueprint for 2030 was presented, addressing not just Russian threats but also challenges from the Middle East and cyberattacks. EU defense commissioner Andrius Kubilius highlighted the need for action, warning that Russia may challenge NATO's defenses unless the new strategy's goals are achieved.
"What we invest in defense actually shows how we value defense. And for that past decade we haven't put a very high importance on it."
