Calls for Russia's frozen assets held in Belgium to be used in rebuilding Ukraine
Briefly

Euroclear, a financial institution in Brussels, holds around 183 billion euros of Russian sovereign assets that were frozen after the invasion of Ukraine. Amid ongoing international discussions about utilizing these funds to aid Ukraine's recovery, more than 130 Nobel laureates have urged Western governments to release the full 300 billion euros to help rebuild the war-torn nation. Although the EU uses profits from these frozen funds to support Ukraine, the annual earnings fall short of the vast financial needs for Ukraine's reconstruction projected at 506 billion euros over the next decade.
"In March, about 130 Nobel laureates, including the peace prize winner Oleksandra Matviichuk, called on western governments to release the 300bn to rebuild Ukraine and compensate war victims."
"The EU's most senior diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has backed the idea of using the assets, as have the foreign ministers of Poland and Lithuania."
