French Prime Minister François Bayrou commented that young travelers should respect travel advisories, stressing that Monterlos seemingly disregarded the risks involved.
Prior to his arrest, Monterlos openly shared his intentions to cycle through some of the world's most dangerous countries at the age of 18.
