Alexei Navalny: Supporters mark two years since death
""Russia claimed that Navalny died of natural causes. But given the toxicity of epibatidine and reported symptoms, poisoning was highly likely the cause of his death. Navalny died while held in prison, meaning Russia had the means, motive and opportunity to administer this poison to him," a joint statement said."
""This confirms what we knew from the very beginning. We knew that our son did not simply die in prison, he was murdered," she told reporters from near his grave."
Supporters in more than 20 countries held commemorations two years after Alexei Navalny's death, with memorials planned across Germany and rallies internationally. Navalny's widow Julia Navalnaya planned to speak at a Paris rally. In Russia, where rallies are banned, people laid flowers at his resting place in the Borisovskoe Cemetery. France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom reported traces of the potent toxin epibatidine in Navalny's remains. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul presented a multinational investigation's findings at the Munich Security Conference. Navalny's mother said the findings confirmed murder and called for accountability.
