Barking and Dagenham Council approved the reintroduction of white storks and beavers to Eastbrookend Country Park and The Chase. White storks will be housed in a purpose-built aviary with grassland areas, and chicks born there will be released to help establish a new breeding population. Beavers will be released into a lakeside enclosure with 16 acres of open water and several small islands in March 2027. London Wildlife Trust will partner on the project with funding from City Hall, the government and corporate sponsors. Funding will also support a species recovery officer to run walks, school visits and volunteer programmes at no cost to local taxpayers.
