Weather tracker: tropical storm forecast to bring torrential rain to Philippines
"Ada, also known as Nokaen, slowly developed into a tropical storm on Friday, travelling northwards along the east coast over the weekend and bringing torrential rain of up to 200mm a day and maximum wind gusts of up to 65mph near the storm's centre. The system is expected to remain a tropical storm until Tuesday as it tracks north-west, though weakening as a result of the incoming north-east monsoon,"
"Named Storm Harry by the Spanish meteorological service Aemet, the impacts of the storm are expected to be felt first on Monday afternoon with heavy rainfall expected across Catalonia, the Valencian community and southern Aragon before also affecting the Balearics, south-west France, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily and the south-west of the Italian mainland. In these areas, orange warnings are in place for Monday, with up to 70mm of rain expected in 24 hours."
The Philippines is experiencing its first tropical storm of the year, Ada (Nokaen), which slowly developed and moved northwards along the east coast. Torrential rain up to 200mm per day and wind gusts to 65mph near the centre are occurring. The system is expected to remain a tropical storm until Tuesday while weakening under the incoming north-east monsoon and transitioning to a tropical depression, with further rain and monsoon-enhanced winds later in the week. Storm surge warnings up to 2.2 metres and wave heights to 5 metres have been issued. Flooding, landslides and lahars around Mayon Volcano are likely, causing travel disruption, school closures and power outages. In the Mediterranean, Storm Harry will bring heavy rainfall, orange and red warnings, and strong easterly winds with dangerous seas and high waves affecting multiple coastal regions.
