On Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, passengers aboard a Newport Coastal Adventure charter filmed more than 100 bottlenose dolphins racing alongside their boat. The large pod rode the boat's wake and repeatedly launched themselves out of the water, with some individuals reaching heights of about 10 feet. Passengers were left thrilled by the energetic display. The high-flying behavior is uncommon for bottlenose dolphins and reflects playful tendencies and strong social bonds. Jessica Rodriguez, education and communications manager for Newport Landing & Davey's Locker Whale Watching, commented on the species' athleticism and social nature.
