Two men arrested in connection with huge illegal rubbish dump
"The illegal dump at Kidlington was an atrocious and deliberate attack on our environment, and the EA shares the community's anger at this horrific crime. Our teams have been working tirelessly with the South East regional organised crime unit on this investigation. These joint efforts have resulted in further arrests, which are another vital step in collecting new evidence and progressing our investigation."
"The illegal dumping of waste at Kidlington is appalling and has caused significant damage to the environment and distress to the local community. I welcome these arrests - an important step in securing justice for local residents."
Two men, aged 69 and 54, were arrested at properties in Andover and Slough on suspicion of environmental and money laundering offences and were released on conditional bail pending further investigation. A previous arrest in November involved a 39-year-old man from the Guildford area. The illegal tip is located between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington, measures about 150 metres in length and contains approximately 20,000 tonnes of waste. The dumped waste has raised fears of pollution to the nearby river and caused distress to the local community. Planning work to clear the site began in December, with waste removal services scheduled for the end of February. The national environmental crime unit and the South East regional organised crime unit are working together to collect evidence and progress the investigation.
