There's a simple solution for Western droughts-but people aren't going to like it
Briefly

A report from UCLA and the Natural Resources Defense Council highlights that Western states reliant on the Colorado River are recycling only a quarter of their wastewater, despite the need to combat severe drought and water shortages. While states like Nevada and Arizona lead with 85% and 52% recycling rates, others lag significantly, with California at 22% and New Mexico at 18%. The report underscores a crucial need for improved wastewater recycling to address projected water shortages ranging from 2 to 4 million acre-feet annually.
"Overall, we are not doing nearly enough to develop wastewater recycling in the seven states that are part of the Colorado River Basin," said Noah Garrison.
States are recycling wildly different proportions of their water, with Nevada at 85% and California only at 22%.
