In Ilford, volunteers gathered to clean up their neighborhood, successfully picking up 30 bags of rubbish and clearing 60 bags of weeds. They also planted 260 flowers and shrubs in a bid to create wildlife habitats and enhance the area’s aesthetics. This initiative is part of a broader national effort aimed at reversing declining wildlife populations, which have decreased by 20% since 1970, according to the 2023 State of Nature report. Participants included local businesses, organizations, and council members, underlining community commitment to environmental responsibility.
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to reverse the decline in wildlife. The flowers help create habitats for wildlife as well as brighten the area.
The planting was part of a nationwide programme to safeguard wildlife, which has reduced by a fifth since 1970, according to a 2023 State of Nature report.
