The Old Farmer's Almanac Predicts a Warm and Wet Winter for Most New Mexico Homeowners
"This pattern means residents in Albuquerque and Santa Fe can expect a milder, wetter winter overall, with a few early snowfalls in the mountains and rain across much of the state's southern desert. Higher precipitation will benefit gardeners and ski areas alike, while the warmth should keep travel smoother through most of the season. Still, those living near the Texas border should stay alert for the occasional wet snow or icy morning."
"New Mexico falls within the Desert Southwest region of the Almanac's forecast, which also includes Albuquerque, El Paso, but also nearby Las Vegas and Tucson. The outlook calls for above-normal temperatures this winter, with the coolest periods expected in mid-November, early December, and late January. Precipitation is projected to run above normal in eastern New Mexico and below normal in the west. Snowfall will also vary by elevation-above average in the east and near normal in the west."
Most of New Mexico will experience a milder-than-average winter with occasional cooler periods in mid-November, early December, and late January. Eastern New Mexico and higher elevations will see above-normal precipitation and above-average snowfall, while western areas are expected to have below-normal precipitation and near-normal snowfall. Early December and early-to-mid January are forecast as the snowiest times. Albuquerque and Santa Fe can expect a milder, wetter season with mountain snow and desert rain. Increased precipitation will help gardeners and ski areas. Residents near the Texas border should prepare for occasional wet snow or icy mornings. November is recommended for home winter preparations, including testing smoke detectors and replacing batteries.
