An estimated 1.2 billion people could be forced to migrate by 2050 due to extreme weather and natural disasters linked to climate change. LGBTQ+ climate refugees will face intensified hardships during relocation and competition for scarce survival resources because of marginalization. In 2023, LGBTQ+ activists briefly halted London’s Pride to protest floats and sponsorships from high-polluting industries and to oppose new fossil fuel projects that threaten "the collapse of our food systems and the breakdown of ordered society." The crisis has already killed and made homeless millions, and projections warn hundreds of millions may be forced from their homes.
