Storm Chandra to hit UK with weather warning for London
"A more serious amber alert comes into effect for parts of the South West at 5pm on Monday running to 9am on Tuesday. It warns that homes and businesses are likely to be flooded and of a danger to life from likely fast flowing or deep floodwater. A wider yellow warning is also in place for the South West and much of Wales from 1pm on Monday to 10am on Tuesday."
"Met Office chief forecaster Paul Gundersen said: Initially strong winds will impact the Isles of Scilly, western Cornwall and south-west Wales which are still vulnerable after Storm Goretti, gusts of 70 to 80mph are possible here. Heavy rain is an additional hazard as it falls on saturated ground in Dorset and southern parts of Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. As Chandra interacts with colder air further north snow becomes a hazard, with 10-20cm of snow possibly accumulating over higher ground in the Pennines, southern Scotland"
Storm Chandra will bring strong winds, heavy rain and snow across much of the UK on Tuesday. Yellow and amber weather warnings cover large areas, with an amber alert for parts of the South West warning of likely flooding to homes and businesses and danger to life from fast-flowing or deep water. Widespread heavy rain could reach up to 80mm on higher ground, notably Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Brecon Beacons. Gusts of 70–80mph are possible in exposed south-west areas previously affected by Storm Goretti. Snowfalls of 10–20cm may accumulate on higher northern terrain, creating further travel and safety hazards.
