Residents of Etobicoke are advocating for a ban on motorized watercraft along the Humber Park shoreline due to safety concerns for swimmers and wildlife. Friends of Humber Bay Park requested the establishment of a motorized watercraft exclusion zone, similar to what was implemented at Hanlan's Point Beach. Concerns primarily focus on inexperienced boaters using Jet Skis, which do not require licenses, training, or insurance. Recent incidents, including a collision involving two Jet Skis, have heightened fears about boating safety in the area, prompting calls for action from city authorities.
"Our biggest concern is inexperienced boaters," he told CBC Radio's Metro Morning earlier this week, saying Jet Ski rentals don't require licences, training or insurance.
Just last week, two Jet Skis collided in the water near Humber Bay Park, according to Toronto police, sending one man to hospital with a leg injury.
