The system toppled trees and power lines, flooded roads, and caused widespread power outages across Sonoma County, leaving thousands without electricity during the holiday. In Sebastopol, a lightning strike shattered a large redwood near a home, producing a loud explosion, scattering debris, and damaging a well pipe that cut the household water supply. Firefighters cleared debris from roofs, off-duty crews observed the rare strike, and power was eventually restored so the family could continue holiday plans.
