A weather modification company, Rainmaker, faces speculation over its cloud-seeding operation's possible role in recent catastrophic floods in Texas that resulted in numerous fatalities. Just days before the floods, Rainmaker conducted cloud-seeding roughly 130 miles from the flood zone. CEO Augustus Doricko asserted the company's innocence, explaining operations were suspended prior to flood warnings. Experts and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation confirmed cloud seeding has limited efficacy, typically resulting in minimal precipitation enhancement and not the kind of severe weather that occurred.
Experts have confirmed that cloud seeding, while used to stimulate precipitation, has limited power and cannot cause the extreme storms as seen in Texas.
Rainmaker CEO Augustus Doricko stated that the cloud-seeding operations had been suspended before the flash flood warnings, insisting the company was not involved in the floods.
