N.Y. weather: Nor'easter to bring heavy rain, 50 mph winds to NYC; will it impact Halloween?
"The main weather event arrives Thursday when a strengthening frontal system moves through the area, bringing a period of rain that could be heavy at times. Wind gusts could approach 40 mph, with occasional gusts possibly reaching near 50 mph. The system will bring the warmest temperatures of the week, with highs in the upper 50s and dewpoints rising well into the 50s degrees."
""There will be a possibility for flooding from the heavy rain Thursday through Thursday night," the National Weather Service states. "This looks to be mostly minor, particularly for poor drainage areas." The forecast also notes a slight chance of thunderstorms Thursday night, mainly for locations in the southern half of the forecast area. Rain is expected to taper off Friday with some lingering showers, though gusty winds will continue. Total rainfall could accumulate to a few inches by the end of the event."
Monday will be dry and cool with highs in the low to middle 50s and overnight lows in the upper 30s to low 40s as northeast winds increase. A developing coastal low will raise the pressure gradient, producing brisk northeast winds Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the middle to upper 50s and increasing shower chances Wednesday, especially along coastal areas. A strengthening frontal system will move through Thursday into Thursday night, producing periods of heavy rain, wind gusts up to about 50 mph, higher dewpoints and the warmest temperatures of the week. Minor inland and coastal flooding and a slight chance of thunderstorms are possible, with rain tapering Friday and total rainfall potentially reaching a few inches.
