""We have to really think about stages of readiness and prioritize not putting good money after bad," said commissioner Davina Hurt, an attorney who is the former mayor of Belmont, adding "we should put the money toward projects that are moving closer to becoming implemented.""
""I think we are at a decision point and it's probably more likely than not that the board will vote to suspend it," said Tony Estremera. "I don't know if we can overcome these challenges now.""
A proposed $2.7 billion reservoir near Pacheco Pass has encountered major setbacks after $100 million in expenditures and continued delays. The California Water Commission voted unanimously to deny further state bond funding citing lack of project readiness by the Santa Clara Valley Water District. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation declined to provide funding, assist with environmental studies, or permit storage of Central Valley Project water in the reservoir. Valley Water has scheduled a board update and the board chair indicated the project will likely be suspended. The plan originally called for a 320-foot dam on Pacheco Creek near Highway 152.
