""The average peak electricity demand per property was lower than we would expect.""
""a sterling bit of work""
""We currently seem to be overpredicting how much power we need in new-build housing.""
Seven all-electric homes at Project 80 in Birmingham were monitored for a full year by Birmingham City University. Each home used an air-source heat pump for heating and hot water, alongside high levels of insulation and rooftop solar panels. Annual electricity consumption ranged 40%–67% below the UK average, and peak electricity demand per property was significantly lower than modelled predictions. Varied household usage patterns helped reduce simultaneous peaks, easing grid pressure. Some homes used less energy for heating and hot water than Energy Performance Certificate estimates, exposing EPC accuracy issues. Carbon savings analysis is still being finalised.
