Met Office issues an amber warning for further snow - London Business News | Londonlovesbusiness.com
"A complex mix of snow, heavy rain, strong winds and possibly freezing rain will mark an end to the cold spell that has been in place across the UK since the start of the year. A low pressure system to the northwest of the UK will drive milder air and strong winds across the UK on Sunday. With cold air in place across the north, snow is likely to accumulate before turning to rain later on Sunday."
"As milder air progresses eastwards, rain becomes more of a hazard, with Yellow rain warnings issued for western and northern Scotland, southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland. 80-100mm of rain could accumulate in the western Scotland warning area through Sunday and into Monday, which along with snow melt could cause some flooding impacts. In Northern Ireland accumulations could reach 40-60mm over higher ground."
Milder air from a northwest low pressure system will bring a complex mix of snow, heavy rain, strong winds and possible freezing rain across the UK. Snow is likely to accumulate in northern areas before turning to rain later on Sunday, while southern regions largely see rain. An Amber warning for eastern Scotland forecasts 5-15cm at low levels and 20-30cm on higher ground. A wider Yellow warning covers most of Scotland and much of northern England, with 2-5cm at low levels and temporarily 10-20cm higher up. Yellow rain warnings for western and northern Scotland and Northern Ireland warn of 80-100mm and 40-60mm respectively, raising flood risk as snow melts. Freezing rain could lead to rapid ice formation in east Scotland and northeast England. Strong gusts of 45-60mph are expected widely, with up to 70mph possible along exposed coasts and high ground.
