""In the wake of this system and the one that preceded it earlier this week, the waves are really going to build up,""
""We're gonna have a good chance to see some 20-foot breakers, and a longer-period chance for sneaker waves.""
"The weather service said a beach hazards statement will go into effect along the Pacific Coast beginning at 4 p.m. and will continue through 10 p.m. Monday. Most waves are expected to break between 13 and 18 feet."
The main front of a storm moved through the Bay Area overnight, delivering slow, steady rain that will transition to scattered showers as the day progresses. The system was the fourth since early November and the least powerful of them; its main front hit the North Bay around 9 p.m. Wednesday and spread regionwide by Thursday morning. By 7 a.m. Thursday the front was moving east and south, targeting areas including Walnut Creek, Hayward, and San Jose for additional rain. An upper-level low will keep showers scattered and clouds lingering. Measured rainfall reached about 0.4 inches in parts of Oakland, Union City, Hayward, and Richmond, with quarter-inch totals at San Jose Mineta, San Francisco International, and Ben Lomond. A beach hazards statement covers the Pacific Coast from 4 p.m. Thursday through 10 p.m. Monday, with most waves 13–18 feet and potential 20-foot breakers and sneaker waves.
