On April 22, the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, a community cleanup was held at Seth Low Park in Bensonhurst, organized by local leaders Assemblymember William Colton and Councilmember Susan Zhuang. In partnership with local schools, the event aimed to enhance community involvement and environmental awareness. Colton emphasized the dual benefits of improving the areaâs quality of life and instilling valuable teamwork lessons. Earth Day, initiated in 1970, serves to raise environmental issues awareness and has evolved into a global observance, highlighted by the landmark Paris Agreement of 2016.
I have long sponsored local events like this one, because I believe they not only help improve the quality of life for the people who live in the area, but also because I believe they teach important lessons about the importance of working together toward a common goal that enhances everyone's day-to-day life.
Earth Day was started in 1970 to raise awareness of environmental issues and the importance of being good stewards of the planet.
