At 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, for East Bay Interior Valleys. Visibility can drop to one-quarter mile or less, creating hazardous driving conditions. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights (and fog lights if available), avoid high beams, and leave extra following distance. Use lane markings to stay in the correct lane. If visibility approaches zero, activate hazard lights and pull into a safe, off-road location or nearby parking area. If stopping on the roadside, deactivate all lights except hazards, set the emergency brake, and release the brake pedal.
