"It will be cloudy for most of the country today, with patchy rain and drizzle moving to the west. Some places, particularly in the west and midlands, will see overnight mist and fog lingering for most of the day. Meanwhile, much of the eastern half of the country will see drier conditions in the afternoon, with a few bright or sunny spells, and it will later clear to the west."

Elsewhere will clear, with only scattered patches of light rain and drizzle in place, but there will be some showers from the south and southeast. Temperatures are set to drop to 2 and 7C, remaining the coldest in parts of the southwest and midlands, bringing patches of mist and fog."

Much of the eastern half will be drier with some bright or sunny spells during the afternoon. Temperatures will range between 6 and 11C, remaining coolest in Munster. Tonight will be cloudy with rain and drizzle in the northwest clearing early, while other areas clear with isolated showers from the south and southeast. High pressure builds on Christmas Eve bringing drier, more settled weather for the rest of the week.
