"The last few weeks have been a bit of an adjustment for those of us who weren't quite prepared to pull our hats and gloves out of the cupboard just yet. But as the colder season rolls in, what might be in store for the festive period? And crucially, do the chillier temperatures mean we might be in with a chance of seeing a white Christmas?"
"So, snow seekers, what do you need to know about the run-up to Christmas Day? Well, first of all, if you're struggling to get used to the unsettled conditions, prepare to be hit with more of them. Don't put the umbrella and windbreaker away just yet, because episodes of wet and windy weather are expected to punctuate the run up to Christmas. However, those are more likely to be focused on the northwest of the country."
"The South East is expected to enjoy a few drier and more settled periods. As we move later through the month and towards Christmas Day, weather conditions are expected to get wetter in the south, and possibly a bit drier in the north. Overall, temperatures are expected to be about - or slightly higher - than average, which will likely trigger a wave of relief for those of you who have been desperately battling the freezing mornings."
Unsettled weather will continue through December with episodes of wet and windy conditions expected to punctuate the run-up to Christmas. The northwest of the country is likely to see the most stormy spells, while the South East can expect some drier, more settled periods initially. Later in the month the south is predicted to get wetter while parts of the north may turn a little drier. Overall temperatures are forecast to be about, or slightly higher than, average, with London currently mild for late November at around 10–14C and next-week highs near 13C and lows near 6C.
