Dead whale washes ashore on Rockaway Beach, drawing crowds of onlookers - QNS
""It would not surprise me at all if this was due to the wind farms that are increasingly being placed along the coast," Council Member Joann Ariola said."
""I've been told that a necropsy is being done, and I very much look forward to seeing the results of that.""
A 40-foot Sei Whale washed ashore at Rockaway Beach, attracting crowds as temperatures rose. The Parks Department roped off the area to keep onlookers away. The State Department of Environmental Conservation is assisting in securing the site. Council Member Joann Ariola suggested the whale's death might be linked to nearby wind farms. A necropsy will be conducted by the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society and NOAA, with results expected in weeks.
